It is also one of the most well known camps throughout history; it is famous for its guilty actions. This “hell on Earth” was created in May of 1940 and quickly became one of the most feared places in the world. It was a place many knew if they didn't get out soon they'd eventually die due to tormenting or lack of a sanitary environment. This horrific site was commanded by Rudolf Hoss, Hunther Libehenschel, and Richard Baer (Rosenburg). They were the the commanders and had others doing their dirty work while they stayed "innocent". The SS established three of the main camps that also include many other sub camps (Holocaust 35). People didn't usually know how big it was. They only knew of the horrible things that had happened inside of it. Know for its tormenting ways, it is not known for anything good. It was also infamously famous for how large the camp itself was along with the burning done in it (Stein, 18).
