Due to its harsh punishment and tormentors it has become a symbol looking back at World War II. Many think that it is only one camp but this is a huge misconception. It was three main camps and forty-five sub camps (Soumerai and Schulz 17). Those of which were used for tormenting and punishments. These three main camps forced prisoners to do hard labor against their will. Three million prisoners were killed because of the gassings, starvation, disease, shootings, and burnings (“Auschwitz”). The Nazi would get rid of anyone who did not fit perfectly in the Aryan race; that is what these were used for. Anyone unfit for a certain mold was killed off without a doubt in concentration and death camps such as this one. When thinking of World War II many do think of this unimaginable place.
Auschwitz was a horrendous place that took many lives and is very relevant to our history. The tragic things taken place were horrifying and something that should never happen again.
